                     4WD: THE LAUNCH

Text Box: 4WD: THE LAUNCH is an anti-violence awareness event to be held in the Concert Hall (1550 capacity), at Croydon Fairfield Halls on Wednesday 22nd August 2007, 7pm-10pm.
Event Proposal

Who will attend the event?

Our target audience is 10-18 year olds, as this is the age group most at risk of experiencing or being drawn into the emerging youth violence culture.  The aim of the event is to de-glorify youth violence and positively promote involvement in the arts as an alternative investment in young people’s time.

About the event

Music, fashion, dance and drama will be incorporated with presentations, interviews, real life accounts and graphic imagery to raise awareness of the issue, inform young people of steps they can take to make a difference and introduce them to the favourable opportunities available to them; such as the performing arts.

What do we hope to achieve?

The event also aims to promote the services available to young people who have experienced or been affected by violence. Can we stress that this is not a problem solving event, we will not be addressing the deep rooted and multi-faceted causes of youth violence. Nor are we choosing to address a certain type of violence (such as gun/knife/gang related). We simply want to raise general youth awareness and empower young people to take positive steps to make a difference to their communities and pursue the realisation of their personal potential.

Young people will be provided with the opportunity to sign up for workshops and classes with some of the performers and presenters on the night at a later stage. We hope this will result in increased active participation on community projects and activities amongst young people and decrease the number of young people out on streets and at potential risk.

Supporters and partners

The event has already gained support from the Make Your Mark Campaign, Urban Concepts (Don’t Trigger Campaign/Mothers Against Guns), Operation Trident’s IAG, Miss Commonwealth International Ltd, Imagez TV and SIFE UK.

We are in conversation with numerous arts organisations, dance troupes up and coming and higher level artists regarding performances. We currently have confirmed appearances from Peridot, Jai Amore, Avant Garde, Feng Shui, Slick Nick and JCX, Jewel, Daniella Raffa, Picagirl Jeans, Unique ID and G of FRSH Entertainment. All performances will have an anti-violence theme, even if this is found in the lyrics of a backing track.

We are currently in need of further support to ensure the event is successful. Please see below to see if you, your organisation or any of your contacts may be able to help us in anyway.

By getting involved, you will have access to the eyes, ears and minds of 1550 young people aged 10-18 as well as help further a very deserving cause. This event may well tie in with your organisation’s CSR/strategic aims or other current projects you have.

What we need:

  • FINANCE: The event will cost in the region of £7000. We have begun making grant applications but as yet have no secured funding. You may wish to provide finance for a particular act (e.g intended headliners £1000 and hosts £500) or donate a set amount.

  • FOOD AND DRINK SPONSOR: Most performers are volunteering and we need to ensure they are well fed on the day of the show, we are looking for a sponsor who will provide dinner, drinks and snacks to our performers and backstage volunteers at the event. You will have your logo displayed on all marketing materials and receive public thanks on the night.

  • GIFT SPONSOR: As mentioned, most performers will be volunteering and we would like to be able to give gifts/goody bags as a thank you for their time and efforts; you may provide gifts or the finances to pay for them. Again, your logo will be displayed on all publicity and you will receive public thanks on the night.

  • MARKETING SPONSOR: To meet our target audience we are producing flyers and posters which will appeal to our audience and be strategically placed. The core team also need business cards. We need a company who will either provide the finance or design/produce these materials for us. We already have a logo and a number of images for the ad campaign. Again, you will add your logo to all marketing materials and receive public thanks on the night.

  • PERFORMERS: We are still accepting applications from young people (individuals and groups) who feel they have something positive to bring to the event. As this is a non –profit event, we are depending on the level of funding we receive to determine whether we can cover expenses. You will receive professional photos of your performance.

  • CONTRIBUTORS: We need young people to talk about their opinions on youth violence or how it has affected them on film. Accounts of victims of violence will be anonymous using actors to retell their stories. We also are requesting young people provide (unidentifiable) photographic imagery of the physical effects of violence.

  • TECHNOLOGY: As explained above sections of the event will include pre-filmed interviews and sketches. We need someone who is able to edit this raw filmed material and add images/animation/backing tracks etc to create the end product to be intermittently shown throughout the evening.

The event Director is Naomi Donald (Miss Commonwealth Euro-Atlantic) a Management undergraduate and part time model who was victim to a well-publicised random assault last October in South Norwood. The event Producer is Emily Donald Regan a Media Arts student. A core team of widely skilled individuals are working with them to ensure the event is a success.

Please feel free to contact the event director Naomi should you have any questions, suggestions or support you can offer:
